EMILY LYONS

A JOURNEY OF RESILIENCE
AND ADVOCACY

Born in Montgomery, Alabama, on July 18th, 1956, Emily Lyons earned her BSN in 1977 from The University of Alabama in Birmingham, specializing in reproductive health. Her diverse nursing career includes roles in labor and delivery, home health care, emergency rooms, and teaching at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. As the Director of Nursing at the New Woman All Women Healthcare Clinic in Birmingham, Emily’s responsibilities ranged from drug administration and counseling to performing ultrasounds and assisting with surgeries. Her life changed dramatically on January 29th, 1998, when a bomb exploded outside her clinic, resulting in the tragic death of a police officer and leaving Emily seriously injured. After months of recovery, Emily channeled her experience into advocacy, becoming a powerful voice for women’s rights and against violence toward reproductive health providers.
